General Questions about Doulas

What is a doula, and what role do they play in the birthing process?

A doula is a skilled non-medical professional dedicated to supporting you throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. They deliver essential physical and emotional support to expecting families, empowering them through education and advocacy.

Do I actually need a doula? What are the benefits of having one during pregnancy and childbirth?

Doulas are a wonderful asset to your pregnancy, labor, and postpartum experience. They provide crucial logistical support through checklists and resource guides, ensuring you are fully prepared for your baby's arrival, while also offering physical assistance during labor. With a doula by your side, you can expect a more positive childbirth experience, a decreased likelihood of using synthetic oxytocin to speed up labor, and a notable 28% reduction in the chances of needing a Cesarean section.

What's the difference between a doula and a midwife? Can I have both?

Having both a midwife and a doula provides exceptional support throughout your pregnancy and labor. Your midwife will handle the medical side, much like doctors or OBs, while your doula will be there to answer your questions and provide ongoing hands-on assistance. Your doula will join you sooner than your midwife when contractions begin.

Will a doula replace my partner's role during birth?

Absolutely not! A doula's role is to empower both you and your partner by equipping them with essential instructions, techniques, and strategies to ensure they can provide exceptional support during labor. Your partner knows you best, and doulas are experts in childbirth, making us a powerful and effective team.

Team Structure & Doula Pairing

How does the doula pairing system work, and how are doulas assigned to each client?

Doula pairing is based on three essential factors: the doula(s) you feel a strong connection with, the doula(s) whose skills match your needs, and the doula(s) who are available to support you as a client. Together, our doulas and you will make the final decision to ensure the ideal fit for your journey.

Why is working with a pair or trio of doulas beneficial?

We utilize doula pairs and trios to enhance the experience for both you and our doulas. This team structure offers you a diverse range of skills and expertise, ensuring you receive constant support on labor day. For our doulas, collaborating closely allows them to share insights and deliver exceptional care to every client.

Services & Support

What can I expect during my prenatal visits, and how often will we meet before my due date?

The number of prenatal visits is determined by your chosen package and will cover a range of essential topics, including comfort measures, pregnancy and birth concerns, labor techniques, an overview of your birth plan and more.

Do you offer virtual doula support if I am outside your service area or prefer online communication?

We sure do! If you're interested in virtual doula support, you can find all the details on our Specialty Services page.

What types of specialized services do you offer, like birth photography or postpartum care?

We proudly provide many specialty services including Birth Photography, Placenta Encapsulation, Lactation Support, Fertility Support, and much more!

Policies & Practicalities

What is your refund policy if I need to cancel my doula services?

Your investment goes beyond just paying your doulas for their day of labor. Doula fees reflect the on-call support, the strong rapport developed during your pregnancy, the ongoing text support and advice throughout your contract, and their commitment to adjust their schedules at a moment's notice to be there for you on your big day. Please note that if you to discontinue our services after starting the process, all payments made are non-refundable.

How do payments and billing work? Are payment plans available?

To secure your due date on your doula's calendar, an initial deposit is required, with the remaining balance due by the 36-week mark to guarantee their availability for your birth. We provide a range of flexible plans based on your due date. Payments can be made conveniently through debit and credit cards, Zelle, Health Spending Accounts (H.S.A), and Flexible Spending Accounts (F.SA.).

Can I add or adjust services in my package if my needs change?

Absolutely! If time allows, you can always enhance your package by adding services. While we don't permit the removal of items for a price adjustment, you have the option to opt out of services if you choose.
